Unsolved
Amy Lee Schlock Hays, 18, was last seen alive around midnight on the evening of June 17, 1997. She was headed home and walking southbound on She She Street, Hominy, Oklahoma. On July 2, 1997, her body was discovered in the vacant Velma Motel in Hominy. She was strangled to death. The OSBI offered a $5,000 reward on August 11, 1997 for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the person or persons responsible for the crime. The Osage County Sheriff’s Office requested OSBI assistance in the case.

Hominy is a small town South of me. When this first happened, rumors ran wild about who did it and why. It wasnt long and this unsolved homicide in my county was forgotten. There isint a web site dedicated to this murdered girl, not a cyber-sluething forum, nada, nothing. All of the search engines I used came up with ONLY one link, the one I posted above. I do not know Ms.Hays' family, or why they are not screaming for justice. I do know one thing, this girl, regardless of her social status, income, personal habits, DESERVES justice.
Osage County is well known for thier unsolved murders. It is a huge county that also includes North Tulsa area but reaches as far as Kansas. Many of these unsolved cases are from years past. Maybe some of these cases remain unsolved because of the unsavory characters involved or because the victim was a menace to society. The Old West kind of mentality prevails here. Cattle rustlers can still be hanged, but this is no longer practiced. Concealed weapon permits are popular and it is not uncommon to see an average citizen wearing a holster holding a handgun.
In all accounts, our Sheriff department does a good job. They are just people too. Not psychics or miracle workers. They have a budget and rules they must follow. However, it would be such a good thing if Ms. Hays' murder was solved. There is a murderer walking around free.

We had the samething happen in Pawhuska the summer before. A Junior in high school, Joannie Goodwin was last seen walking down the road late one night when the car she was riding in broke down. She left the 2 men she was riding with and disapeared, only to be found in a creek several days later. And still to this day nothing has been done to bring justice for her. Yet several names have been mentioned as suspects and they continue to walk free, some were actual police officers who have since quit or been fired or transferred. It amazes me that just because we are from a small town with little resources that nothing can be done. It scares me to think that you can get away with murder in Osage County.
Joannie's name is not mentioned once on the unsolved cases or any website.
anon-I remember Goodwin's case very clearly, wasnt a Grand Jury involved in her case? I honestly believe there are killers walking around Pawhuska free in her case. I cannot find ANYTHING on her (Goodwin) nada, zip, nothing. Are you close to this case? Can you email me about her? I would certainly appreciate it. I would like to do a story about her. Osage County is notoriously known for people literally 'getting away w/ murder'

I remember that very clearly even though i was only 12 years old. The town of Pawhuska does deserve answer even you as her son. I hope one day you get them. And justice will be served, from what I heard Bobby your your mother Joannie was a very good women with a heart of gold, she would be so proud of you.
In reference to the Joannie Goodwin case; I was very close to Joannie and her family, at one time I thought they were just your basic "close little Texas family" as they came from TX to OK. I remember that week Joannie was "missing"..that FIRST morning around 7-8am, Sunday, Joannie's family had already posted "missing" flyers up all over Pawhuska and surrounding. If you knew Joannie and I mean KNEW her, you wld kw she has taken off before, she did this when her and her stepfather Todd wld get into an argument; the situation wld get out of hand fast! Joannie was like a sister to me so she wld almost always call or just show up. Why THIS time?? Why wld HER FAMILY; mother, sisters, brother put up flyers like she had bn "missing" for days?!?! B/c HER FAMILY knew exactly what hpnd to her THIS time; Joannie was fixn to move with her son Bobby and his father, she had enrolled in school, she was leaving to get her LIFE on track for her son. Her mother Laverne wouldn't hear of it; she made it known Joannie wld NOT take little Bobby away from her no matter what she (Laverne) had to do. I kw this blog is harsh but what hpnd to Joannie was HARSH and cruel, WRONG, it shouldn't hv hpnd to such a wonderful person that only wanted to get her life back FOR HER SON..you ALL kw who you are, come fwd let Joannie REST be in PEACE let little Bobby hv the answers he so desperately needs.
we knew joannie personally. she was a out going person and she was happy and would be friends with anybody. we love and miss her. she trusted everybody. then one nite a sorry peron took her from all of us. i hope they catch who did this to her.

To add insult to injury as if you havent done enouph to our family!! We knew something was wrong the moment she didnt show up the next morning because we had Bobby! And Ms Cherry Brooks Terry called all hours telling us she never came back to her house, when we knew damn good and well she did. Your jealous ass was to much of a coward to kill her yourself. She trusted you and you lead her into a death trap! Then you had the nerve to take my older sister Cindy Young to where you three hid her body and told her to look to see if she could see anything. You helped us pass out flyers and everything!! ALL the while you took her from us and from Bobby. You're sick and you have no place in society!! YOUR days are numbered!! So be prepared to spend alot of time in prison for premeditaded murder BITCH!! Because JUSTICE AND GOD himself is coming for you for what you have done to my sister. And my whole family!!

omg i just logged into this and saw some of the comments. first of all joannie's family would not hurt her in this way. i knew joannie as well and i spent time with her and her family. todd and lavern loves their daughter and would not take her life. the lies need to stop and the person pointing the blame is usually the guilty one. i can honestly say i knew joannie and her family because i have proof her son is my nephew (my brother's son).. stop the freaking lies. and putting your name as anonymous big sign of GUILTY coward!!!! yes it was always said if ya wanna get away with murder just do it in osage county (PAWHUSKA,OKLA). just like JESSIE DIAZ he lost his life there a few years before Joannie! point being they ruled his death as accidental. which is not true! the story is he was drunk which will probly be the truth caus ehe did drink. the police was told he jumped over the bridge for a $50.00 dollar bet. My name is Kristie McCray I was also a friend of Joannies when I moved to pawhuska I lived with my Aunt Judy and her family I only lived in Pawhuska about two years Joannie was one of the nicest the kindest and stubborn she was also loyal and yeah her mom and stepdad fought what teen doesn't argue with their parents I also know for a fact there's NO WAY IN HELL her family was involved...in 1996 my parents moved us to Texas I was not in Pawhuska at the time this tragedy occurred ....I also know for a fact that joannie would never had left off walking by herself at night especially if she'd been with 2 males she'd have known it was safer to stay with them Latisha I agree with you this was a setup it was planned and it damn sure took more than 1 evil spirited person to take Joannie on She could hold her own in a fight The Monsters ganged up on her and was very dirty about how they committed this heinous crime Latisha I knew your mother and your stepdad Todd To the anonymous HER PARENTS WERE NOT INVOLVED THEY LOVED HER......

Kristy im with you and tish! i'm joannie's sons dads sister. bobby hopper is my brother and he never said anything to me about joannie and lil bobby coming to live with him. i dont think that is true at all. lavern and todd loved joannie and they wanted joannie with little bobby so anonymous can't fool us with there ignorant lying bullshit. they know what happened and for them to try and turn and point their finger at joannie's mother and dad is just a sign they are guilty or they know who did it. i cant wait for the truth to come out an dsee her killers or killer go to trial i want to be there and watch as they try to squirm their way out of it. and i have a question kristy your aunt judy what is her last name. i think maybe i know you?

They already arrested the guy. He is incarcerated. They had suspected him all along but didny have enough evidence. They found more a few years ago and he is in prison for that among other things.

After your ignorant comments trying to claim the family did it , now 2019 and cherrie Brooks has been charged with joanie goodwin's murder how dumb do you feel ?you should know your facts before being so disrespectful. Cherrie Brooks is the one who jumped the gun and was so upset about Joanie being missing hence the reason the family began to worry because I think deep down at that point they knew cherrie did something to there joanie . Watch the tv show that aired her case & solved it , cold justice and then you can learn some facts about the case.and I hope you feel like a jerk after watching for trying to claim her family had did this to joanie smh it's sad I seen her son in the comments on the show he was 22 and in the comments he said he was 15 so I can only imagine how upset he felt when he saw you people make these horrendous comments. shame on yall , Smh I hope and pray the Goodwin family make it through all these hard times and i am happy the family finally can have justice. I just watched the cold justice episode concerning this case. It was NOT the victims family who made n posted flyers, it was Cherri Brooks, the woman who in MY mind, is the person who is responsible!!!!
Idc what anyone says or who gets charged with murder but I think and will always think Fred Green killed Joanie
